***: Manatees, often referred to as sea cows, are large, fully aquatic marine mammals known for their gentle nature and slow pace. Located primarily in warm shallow waters such as coastal areas and rivers, manatees are herbivores, primarily feeding on a large variety of submerged and floating plants. With bodies that taper to a paddle-shaped tail and two front flippers aiding in navigation and manipulation of objects, manatees are uniquely adapted to their aquatic lifestyle. They are highly sensitive animals with a sparse distribution of hairs over their body, which helps them sense water currents and pressure changes.
