*** About Great Blue Heron: The Great Blue Heron, scientifically known as Ardea herodias, is the largest North American heron. Often found along coastlines, in marshes, or near the shores of ponds and streams, these birds are solitary creatures at most times, except during the breeding season. They are known for their impressive wingspan, striking blue-gray plumage, and the 'S'-shaped neck when in flight. Despite their size, Great Blue Herons weigh only 5 to 6 pounds due to their light bone structure.
