***: The Great Blue Heron is a wading bird known for its striking appearance and considerable size. With a widespread presence across North America, this species is easily recognizable by its blue-gray plumage, sharp beak, and long legs. Habitually found near shores and in wetlands, they feed primarily on fish, caught in a swift, stabbing motion with their long bill. Great Blue Herons are solitary creatures at most times except during the breeding season, when they gather in colonies known as heronries to nest and raise their young.
